Bajelan Ensemble will perform new songs from their latest album. The performance called ”Shirin and Khosroe” is influenced and built upon the romantic story by the same name put into verse by the great 12th century poet Nezami Ganjavi.

Bahram Bajelan is a well recognized master of Persian classical repertoires as well as being a most popular Persian singer. He was born in Tehran and grew up in a musical family. Bajelan began his musical studies under the direction of his uncle, Bagher Khan Bajelan. He continued his studies in regional music; especially from his native province Lorestan, with his father Aboulhassan Khan Bajelan. He was then inspired to learn to sing the poetic words of the Shahnameh (the book of kings), considered the masterpiece of Persian Literature.

 

Bajelan received his formal vocal education with Master Shahram Nazeri. He completed the Persian repertoire under supervision of Master Nasrolallah Nassehpour. In addition to studying vocal Radif of Persian Classical music, Bajelan continued studying the Old Songs (tasnif) with late Grand Master Ali Asghar Bahari and Master Abdoulvahab Shahidi. Grand Master Bahari passed on to Bajelan his own interpretation of the Radif. Bajelan continued and perfected his knowledge of Radif and the School of Esfahan with the highly precise teachings of the late Grand Master Hossein Omoumi. He studied the singing style of Persian masters such as Seyed Rahim Seyed Hossein Taherzadeh and Adib Khonsari with Master Omoumi. Bajelan has devoted his life to traditional Persian music and literature. He has extensive credits performing with such legendary artists as Grand Masters Jalil Shahnaz, Faramarz Payvar, and Ali Asghar Bahari among others. He has a deep passion for Persian Literature and he has studied the compositional form of Persian poems and music with masters Hushang Ebtehaj, and Fereidoun Moushiri.

 

He has been playing the Setar since 1983, in order to better understand, compose and perform traditional Persian repertoire. Bajelan studied music theory under the supervision of masters Mohammad Reza Lotfi and Hossein Alizadeh. He has been active within Persian classical music for over thirty years, working in the National Iranian Radio and Television, teaching, researching, composing and performing numerous concerts. Bajelan was deeply inspired by the master vocalist Seyed Hossein Taherzadeh and researched his style of singing for several years. In 2000 he immigrated to Sweden. He has performed extensively throughout the United States and Europe and has appeared on many radio and television programs. Currently he lives in Sweden. He is a singing teacher educated at KMH/Royal College of Music in Stockholm and teaches Persian Classical music and song at KMH in Stockholm .
